High School Athletics
FCPS has ten high schools ranging in size from approximately 900 to 1,800 students. The high school athletic program consists of 23 varsity, 11 junior varsity and three ninth grade teams per school competing in 26 sports, in addition to cheerleading. FCPS employs over 500 coaches to supervise and teach the nearly 8,000 students who participate in the athletic program. The FCPS Athletic Association regulates the interscholastic program, which is administered by the Supervisor of Athletics. The Association is composed of ten members, one principal from each school, who report to the Associate Superintendent for secondary schools. Each FCPS high school has an Athletic Director that supervises and administers the school’s athletic program. All coaches are hired at the local school level. Prospective coaches should complete the online coach application. The FCPS athletic program is operated under the regulations of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA), which is comprised of over 110,000 athletes and 191 member schools from nine districts. MPSSAA hosts 24 state tournaments each school year. FCPS Interscholastic Athletic Fee All student team members are required to pay a nonrefundable interscholastic fee of $90 per sport season. Students must pay this fee before the first athletic contest. Fees collected will contribute to the county athletics program to underwrite transportation, coaches’ salaries, officials’ fees, equipment and uniforms. 2013-2014 Starting Dates: Fall - Wednesday, August 14 Winter - Friday, November 15 Spring - Saturday, March 1 Frederick County Public Schools is not responsible for the content of externally authored links included on FCPS web pages. | Contacts
