Time for Annual Model UN Approaches

More than 300 high school students will come together on Saturday, January 6 at Hood College for the 13th annual Model United Nations. The event, cosponsored by Frederick County Public Schools and Hood College, will bring together students from across the DC Metropolitan area.

Scheduled to address the assembled group of students are Hood College Provost Dr. Debbie Ricker, US Department of State Foreign Service Officer John Fer and FCPS Superintendent Dr. Theresa Alban.

Guided by rules of the UN, participating students will serve as ambassadors, choosing to represent the strategic interests of one of over 190 member UN countries. They will address real problems facing the world and develop comprehensive approaches to solve them. Up for discussion at this year’s event are restructuring the Security Council; population, climate and resource issues; religious freedom; narcotics trafficking; and journalists’ safety.

If inclement weather causes postponement, this event will take place Saturday, January 13.
