Elementary Mathematics

Mathematics helps children describe the world in terms of size and shape and allows them to appreciate the beauty of its patterns. As children learn mathematics they develop skills and concepts they will use in science, technology, business, and a wide range of career areas.

Children learn to value, understand and use math not only at school but also in their world. The elementary school curriculum encourages students to enjoy learning and doing math --- including standard algorithms and math facts --- and helps them to apply their growing base of knowledge as successful thinkers, problem solvers and communicators.

These attributes are developed in all areas of study:

  • Algebra
  • Patterns and Functions
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Statistics
  • Probability
  • Number Relationships and Computation
