From the Director...
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the special education website for Frederick County Public Schools. Special Education in Frederick County is built upon collaboration where families and professionals work together to appropriately serve the needs of students with educational disabilities. The Special Education Department encourages schools and families to engage in honest, open communication and to work in partnership for the benefit of all students. We value the benefits that both general and special education can offer to disabled and non-disabled students, by educating students in an inclusive environment as much as possible.
Beginning with early intervention, our special education programs offer a continuum of services designed to address the needs of students in the least restrictive environment (LRE). We are committed to providing a free, appropriate, public education (FAPE) to all students who are eligible to receive special education and related services, so that each student can develop his/her unique skills and abilities and successfully transition into the community.
