Frederick County Public Schools’ Purchasing Department staff recently earned special recognition at the regional Association of School Business Officials (ASBO MD&DC) conference.
FCPS Purchasing Manager Stephen Starmer received the Special President’s Award for outstanding support to the president. He chaired the Professional Development Committee responsible for developing and scheduling educational sessions at the conference and is also a director-at-large for ASBO MD&DC.
FCPS Purchasing Agent Bill Meekins earned ASBO distinction as a Certified School Business Official.
Procurement Card Administrator Hope Miller earned ASBO distinction as a Certified School Business Specialist.
These certifications required a series of nine courses of study in all disciplines involving school business. The certification program began eight years ago. Mr. Meekins and Ms. Miller are among only five professionals in the region who have earned ASBO MD&DC certification.
“I am very proud of these employees’ accomplishments,” said FCPS Chief Financial Officer Leslie Pellegrino. “Going above and beyond their job requirements, our staff demonstrates they care about doing the very best work possible for taxpayers who support the school system. They work diligently to keep FCPS costs as low as possible, making resources more readily available for our classrooms. Their leadership and professionalism also support continuing education for peers throughout the region. These are commendable achievements.”
