The Board of Education of Frederick County announces vacancies on its Calendar Committee, Ethics Panel and Family Life Advisory Committee.
The Calendar Committee has openings for six parents and two alternates to help form the proposed 2018-2019 school year calendar. The committee will meet Wednesdays, August 16, September 20, October 4 and 18, and November 1 and 8, 2017. Interested parents should complete the application at www.fcps.org/committees as soon as possible and no later than Tuesday, August 1. For additional information, please visit www.fcps.org/calendar to read how the school calendar is determined.
The Ethics Panel has one opening for a volunteer to serve a three-year term beginning July 1. Appointees interpret ethics regulations, advise on ethics issues and review financial disclosure statements. The panel meets about three times per school year to fulfill responsibilities under the Maryland Ethics Law and Board Policy. It is expected that members attend regularly scheduled meetings, which typically occur during the day. FCPS employees are not eligible to serve. To apply, email a letter of interest, relevant background information and contact information by July 31, 2017 to firstname.lastname@example.org. For further information, call 301-696-6850.
The BOE seeks representatives to serve two-year terms on its Family Life Advisory Committee: one person each from the Catoctin and Middletown "feeder" areas and one student. A feeder area includes the high school and the middle and elementary schools from which students will ultimately attend, or "feed into," it. The committee examines all instructional materials proposed for use in the Family Life and HIV and AIDS-prevention units and makes recommendations to the BOE. It also consults with the educators charged with developing, implementing and evaluating the program. For an application, please visit www.fcps.org/committees. The application deadline is Monday, July 31, 2017.
For more information about any of the above vacancies, contact BOE Executive Assistant Debbie Wachter-Harne, 301-696-6850.
