Frederick County Public Schools has once again earned recognition for outstanding financial reporting. The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded another Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting to FCPS for having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. The Government Finance Officers Association has also announced that FCPS earned its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Both recognize the school system’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending 2017.
The ASBO Certificate of Excellence confirms the school system’s commitment to financial accountability and transparency. The CAFR informs parents and other stakeholders about the financial and economic state of the district, making it an important communications tool for building trust and engaging with the school community. FCPS Fiscal Services Division’s Chief Financial Officer Leslie Pellegrino expressed her appreciation to Financial Reporting Manager Melissa Rollison and her team for preparing the report.
“Our dedicated staff works diligently throughout the year and especially after the fiscal year ends to track and accumulate the financial activities into our Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The goal is to present FCPS financial information so that everyone can easily review and understand it. The Certificate of Excellence validates that we reached this goal.”
