Frederick County Public Schools’ Maintenance and Operations Director Robert E. Wilkinson Jr. has earned the 2018 Pinnacle of Excellence Award from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).
Pinnacle awards recognize individuals considered innovators in school business management. While ASBO presents multiple Pinnacle of Achievement awards, Wilkinson is the only Pinnacle of Excellence recipient for 2018. His management philosophy is, “Employees are our most valuable resource. Let’s treat them accordingly.”
Realizing that most skilled tradesmen come to school districts from the private sector and are often unfamiliar with some of the unique aspects of working in a public school system, Wilkinson led his team to create an online, self-directed “onboarding” program to provide FCPS employees with information about topics such as the department’s structure and policies and procedures. For 150 employees working in nine locations, the program supports the FCPS culture of excellence and purpose. It helps staff attain professional fulfillment and job satisfaction by mastering skills, working autonomously and serving as leaders, regardless of their job classification, Wilkinson explains.
“The entire FCPS community is extremely proud of this well-deserved recognition for Mr. Wilkinson’s outstanding work,” said FCPS Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban. “Bob exemplifies the creativity, innovation, and leadership that characterize FCPS employees across the county.”
