Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) and the Frederick County Public Library system (FCPL) are natural partners. FCPS Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban and FCPL Director James Kelly recently renewed their partnership agreement.
In support of the partnership, FCPL enables schools to sign students up for public library cards and fine-free access. The partnership provides students access to online materials and library programs even if they can’t get to their local library. In addition, county libraries will explore possibilities for hosting FCPS student interns. The partnership also provides a way for students to participate in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee and summer reading programs.
“These are excellent opportunities for our students,” said Superintendent Alban. “Our students clearly benefit when public library staff and public school staff work cooperatively. This partnership offers so many possibilities for us and is bound to continue to deliver positive results for our students and the community.”
“Thanks to this partnership, students will have greater access to the variety of learning resources offered by Frederick County Public Libraries,” said Frederick County Public Libraries Youth Services Manager Janet Vogel. “From language learning tools to help preparing for a driver’s test, there’s something for every student.”
Both groups will continue to pursue joint processes to maximize resources. They have established liaisons for communication and share relevant training opportunities.
