Kindergarten and PreK Registration Begin Monday, March 18

Registration for Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) fall 2019 kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes begins Monday, March 18 at local elementary schools. Schools strongly encourage early registration so they have time to predict accurate class sizes and hire adequate staff.

Kindergarten registration will continue on school days between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. FCPS recommends calling the local school for specific hours. To enter kindergarten in fall 2019, a child must be five on or before September 1, 2019. Those registering will need the child's:
-immunization record
-proof of birth date
-proof of residency.

All kindergarten classes at public elementary schools in Frederick County are full-day programs, generally 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays.

To enter pre-kindergarten in fall 2019, a child must be four on or before September 1, 2019. Students are selected based on criteria such as eligibility for free or reduced-priced meals or factors that increase a child’s risk of not being successful in school. Proof of income eligibility is required for automatic priority placement. When applying for pre-kindergarten, provide the child’s:
-immunization record
-proof of birth date
-proof of residency.

If planning to have the child enter with automatic priority placement status based on the federal income eligibility guidelines for free or reduced-price meals, also include income documentation for each household member by providing one of the following:
-three consecutive paystubs within the past six months or
-a W2 form/federal tax return showing 2018 earnings or
-a Food Supplemental Program verification letter or
-a Temporary Cash Assistance verification letter
(if those do not apply, please contact the school for other options).

If applying for automatic status due to homelessness or foster care, appropriate documentation will be required as well.

If the child has a documented special need, please provide a copy of the child’s current Individualized Education Program (IEP).
