Frederick County Public Schools will observe Brain Awareness Week Monday-Sunday, March 11-17. The observance is part of a global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. FCPS is one of 5,600 partner organizations participating in 120 countries. This is the school system’s third year of involvement, and FCPS is the only Maryland district to achieve status as a Brain Awareness Week (BAW) partner.
Schools will use related morning announcements, trivia contests, posters and bulletin board displays, media center events and lessons throughout the week. FCPS will use the hashtag #FCPSbrainweek to share information via Twitter. Advanced Academics teachers have put together a list of brain-related health and other tips they’ll share.
In addition, community partners are promoting the week. KEY103 and 106 The Eagle radio stations will broadcast Brain Awareness Week fun facts, information and trivia challenges with prizes. Public libraries are hosting events, described at www.fcpl.org/brain. Dancing Bear Toys and Gifts in downtown Frederick will offer giveaways while hosting a “Grow Your Brain” event Thursday, March 14, during which children are invited to play brain-strengthening games.
