Frederick County Public Schools received the 2018 Flu Fighter Award from LifeWork Strategies, a member of Adventist HealthCare.
“More than 1,500 employees got their flu shots at one of 68 on-site FCPS flu clinics this past fall, helping to stop the spread of flu in our community and schools,” said FCPS Benefits and Wellness Coordinator Phoebe Barreto. Ms. Barreto coordinates the school system’s Employee Wellness Program.
According to a Centers for Disease Control report, flu costs businesses more than $10 billion in direct costs for hospitalizations and outpatient visits for adults. Providing an opportunity at work for employee vaccinations is a critical step in the effort to prevent these hospitalizations and deaths from the flu and pneumonia.
“Presenting FCPS with LifeWork Strategies’ annual Flu Fighter Award is a way to recognize the important preventive steps FCPS has taken,” says Human Resources Director Tim Thornburg. “We appreciate the recognition and will continue our strong FCPS commitments to employee wellness.”
