The Frederick County Public Schools’ All-County Elementary Honors Band & Orchestra makes Frederick High School the place to be on Wednesday, March 27th, at 7 p.m. Tickets for this 2nd annual event, sold at the door (cash only), are $5 for adults and $3 for students; senior citizens ages 60 and above are admitted free. Ticket prices support the arts in Frederick County public schools. FCPS employees enter free with their ID badge.
“It’s remarkable to watch our finest 5th grade band and orchestra musicians arrive from across Frederick County, never having met, to rehearse and perform after one day each of rehearsals. Our students’ talent is a powerful inspiration to lift the audience’s spirits. As always we expect the house to be packed with proud families and friends of the arts,” says Susan Thomas, FCPS elementary Visual and Performing Arts curriculum specialist.
Fifth graders who made it through auditions throughout FCPS elementary schools are rehearsing weekly with their school’s itinerant instrumental music teachers. The day before the concert, they will meet their fellow ensemble members and conductors Marc Musser (band) and Thomas Mitchell (orchestra) to rehearse. The Band will perform first with five ensemble pieces, and the orchestra will then take the stage and perform five additional pieces.
“Please come out and support FCPS’s finest 5th grade musicians in a performance that will undoubtedly touch your heart,” says Ms. Thomas.
