BOE Seeks Feedback on FY21 Budget

BOE Seeks Feedback on FY21 Budget

The Board of Education of Frederick County (BOE) seeks feedback at a public hearing Wednesday, February 5 on next year’s school system operating budget, fiscal year 2021. The hearing will take place at 7 p.m. at 191 S. East Street, Frederick, in the Central Office Board Room.

At this point in the process, Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban has shared her initial budget recommendations on January 6, using a video format to reach as many community members as possible. The video is online at: https://youtu.be/Nt-j6RV6Lw0. In addition,  FCPS has posted a detailed summary of the Superintendent’s recommended budget at www.fcps.org/budget. Factors such as not-yet-determined final funding levels from the county and state mean that details and final numbers are still changing.

“As we work through the budget process, I invite every member of our community to share your budget priorities. Public advocacy for our county’s schools and students significantly impacts our funding,” says Dr. Alban. “I encourage everyone to share your views at the Board’s public hearing. Please add your voice,” she urges, “to support public education and help keep FCPS and our community on a path to fulfilling the promise of public education.”

In addition to speaking at the public hearing, the public may email questions and comments to fcps.budget@fcps.org, post comments via Twitter using #FCPSPromise (follow the FCPS Twitter account at http://www.twitter.com/fcpsmaryland), and post feedback to the FCPS Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FCPSMaryland/. An online calendar shows the budget process timeline at www.fcps.org/about/fy2021-budget-calendar

Individuals may sign up as early as 30 minutes prior to the hearing to speak for three minutes; an individual representing an organization is allotted five minutes.
