The FCPS Distinguished Arts Scholar Program is proud to announce its inaugural class of honorees, recognizing highly dedicated and accomplished students in the fine arts. This year marks the official launch of the program, celebrating a total of 80 students across the district who have demonstrated exceptional talent and commitment to their craft. This includes 5 students in Dance, 19 in Music, 10 in Theatre, and 46 in Visual Art. These numbers reflect the depth of student engagement and achievement across all fine arts disciplines.

The Distinguished Arts Scholar designation is an application-based recognition for students who demonstrate sustained excellence and commitment in their chosen arts discipline. To qualify, students must successfully complete at least four elective courses in their respective discipline, earning a final grade of "B" or higher in each. Beyond academic excellence, these scholars have proven their dedication through meaningful participation in additional arts-related experiences that further strengthen their skills, artistry, and community impact.

To be recognized, students also meet the following discipline-specific criteria:

  • Dance: Choreograph at least one dance for public presentation (solo or ensemble). Audition for All-County Dance each year enrolled in an FCPS dance course. Be a member of the National Dance Honor Society (if offered at the school).
  • Music: Participate for at least two years in All-County or All-State music ensembles. Or participate in one All-County or All-State ensemble and receive a Superior rating at least once at an FCPS Solo & Ensemble festival. Be a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society (if offered at the school).
  • Theatre: Participate in at least five after-school theatre productions. Perform a monologue or scene at the FCC/FCPS Theatre Festival each year they attend theatre class. Be a member of the International Thespian Society (if offered at the school).
  • Visual Art: Display student artwork in at least two public art shows. Be a member of the National Art Honor Society (if offered at the school).
