BOE Seeks Community Input on Redistricting

The Board of Education of Frederick County (BOE) seeks public feedback as a vital part of the process of drawing new elementary, middle and high school attendance areas for September 2018 when Butterfly Ridge Elementary opens on Butterfly Lane in the western part of the City of Frederick. The Butterfly Ridge redistricting study encompasses the following schools even though not all may be affected by the final redistricting:  Ballenger Creek, Carroll Manor, Hillcrest, Lincoln, Orchard Grove, Parkway, Tuscarora, Valley, Waverley and Whittier elementary schools, Ballenger Creek, Brunswick, Crestwood, Monocacy, and West Frederick middle schools, and Brunswick, Governor Thomas Johnson, Tuscarora, and Frederick high schools.

The BOE invites the public to any or all of three public hearings about the redistricting. Each takes place at 7 p.m. on a Wednesday in the school cafeteria, as follows: March 29 at Orchard Grove Elementary, 5898 Hannover Drive; April 5 at Hillcrest Elementary, 1285 Hillcrest Drive; and April 26 at Waverley Elementary, 201 Waverley Drive. New attendance-area boundaries will go into effect in fall 2018 when Butterfly Ridge Elementary opens.
