The Board of Education of Frederick County approved the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY2026) operating budget at its June 25 meeting. The FY2026 operating budget totals $970 million – a 3.1 percent increase over the current budget.

The FY2026 budget, which goes into effect July 1, focuses on critical system needs, including:

  • Maintaining existing programs and services
  • Accommodating systemic growth
  • Addressing inflationary expenses

“The approved budget allows FCPS to continue offering the same programs and services our community relies on,” FCPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson said. “During this challenging budget year, I am appreciative of the collaboration and cooperation of our Board, our elected officials, and our negotiated agreement partners to support public education throughout the process. In FCPS, we remain focused on giving students the resources and opportunities they need to be successful.”

The Board also approved the Fiscal Year 2026 capital budget of $172.9 million, which comprises state and local funding. The budget provides construction funds for the following projects:

  • The Middletown Co-located Elementary/Middle Replacement School
  • Yellow Springs Elementary Replacement School
  • New Elementary School 41
  • Design funding for the Brunswick High Replacement School
  • Six systemic renovation projects

"I am grateful to our local and state leaders for supporting capital improvement projects that are needed to support the growth of our system and keep our existing buildings maintained,” FCPS Board of Education President Rae Gallagher said. “These significant projects will benefit our community in the years to come.”

The Board also approved the FY2026 budgets for the Food and Nutrition Service, Self-Insurance, and Artificial Turf funds. For more information on the FY2026 budget and capital improvements, please visit the Our Budget page on FCPS.org.
