The Board of Education of Frederick County approved the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY2027) operating budget at its June 10 meeting. The FY2027 operating budget totals $1.016 billion – a 4.7% percent increase over the current budget.
The FY2027 budget, which goes into effect July 1, focuses on critical system needs, including:
- Maintaining existing programs and services
- Accommodating systemic growth
- Addressing inflationary expenses
“The approved budget reflects our community’s continued investment in public education and our shared commitment to supporting student success,” FCPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson said. “I am grateful to our Board of Education, County Executive, County Council, state delegation, negotiated agreement partners, and community members for their collaboration throughout the budget process. As we move forward together, FCPS remains focused on providing students with the opportunities, resources, and support they need to learn, grow, and thrive.”
The Board also approved the Fiscal Year 2027 capital budget of $56.5 million, which comprises state and local funding. The budget provides construction funds for the following projects:
- Brunswick High School Replacement Design
- Middletown Co-Located Elementary & Middle School
- 14 Systemic Projects
- Classroom Technology replacement
“I appreciate the partnership of our local and state leaders in supporting the capital projects that are critical to the future of Frederick County Public Schools,” FCPS Board of Education President Dean Rose said. “These investments help us address growth, maintain and improve our facilities, and ensure our students and staff have learning environments that support success both now and in the years ahead.”
