FCPS Holds Ceremonial Groundbreaking for New Middletown Elementary, Middle Schools
Frederick, MD – Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, FCPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson,
Middletown Middle Principal Brianna Zeoli, and Middletown Elementary Principal Jan Hollenbeck joined state, local, and system leaders today to break ground on the building that will house the new Middletown Elementary and Middletown Middle.
They were joined by members of the Frederick County delegation, Frederick County government, the Board of Education of Frederick County, future students of the schools, members of the community, and FCPS leadership.
The new Middletown Middle and Elementary building will house two schools – an elementary school for Grades 3-5 and a middle school for Grades 6-8.
“Our teams in Curriculum, School Administration and Facilities Services have spent almost two years ensuring that while these two schools share a campus and foundation, they maintain their own separate structure, identity, leadership, and culture,” Dr. Dyson said. “This project replaces two aging facilities with a premiere learning environment while maximizing resources on this campus.”
Substantial completion of the project is scheduled for June 30, 2027 in preparation for students to arrive for the 2027-28 school year.
Students who will attend the new Middletown Elementary and Middle took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
