On Thursday, May 14, 2026, Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) celebrated the culmination of a year of student leadership, empathy, and community impact at the annual Superintendent’s Cup Awards Ceremony. For an unprecedented third consecutive year, the Middletown Middle School Student Government Association (SGA) was awarded the prestigious Superintendent’s Cup.

This historic achievement cements Middletown Middle School's legacy as a leader of student-led service, continuing a streak that began when they became the first middle school in county history to ever receive the cup.

Each year, the Frederick County Association of Student Councils (FCASC) Executive Board selects a community charity for an action-oriented student service program. This year’s partner was SHIP (Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership), an organization dedicated to providing critical resources to local students and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Throughout the school year, FCPS schools earned points by participating in monthly challenges designed to support SHIP through advocacy, direct service, and indirect service.

FCPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson presented the award, praising Middletown Middle School's strategic approach to this year's initiative.

The victory is a testament to the dedication of the Middletown Middle School SGA Ambassadors and their advisors, Ms. Melissa Lippy and Ms. Amie Kefauver, who have fostered a culture of profound community impact. Rather than focusing solely on fundraising, Middletown's students became true advocates, educators, and hands-on supporters for their peers in need.

FCPS extends its warmest congratulations to Middletown Middle School and to all participating student councils across the district for their inspirational leadership in bettering the Frederick County community.
