Meet the Board: Lois Jarman
Dr. Lois Jarman has been a world language educator for more than seventeen years. She has taught English, French, Spanish, and Latin on a secondary and post-secondary level. Lois received her doctoral degree in second language acquisition and, currently, is the Director of the Intensive English Language Program at Shepherd University. Prior to her joining the faculty at Shepherd, she taught French, Spanish and Latin for seventeen years in public schools. Lois has traveled extensively and led many student trips to Europe and South America. She lived in Rosario, Argentina, for a language immersion program and has spent extended time in Japan and France. In her spare time, Lois has been a Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary member and volunteer for more than seventeen years and also serves on the hospital development council. She is a mentor with Woman to Woman Mentoring, a member and past president of the Frederick County Commission for Women, and a member of the Frederick Women’s Giving Circle. Lois has been the president of the Central Maryland chapter of PFLAG since the group was chartered in February of 2006. She was named Frederick’s Ally of the Year in 2013 by the Frederick Center. Lois has been a resident of Frederick County in Maryland for more than thirty years.
