Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson
Every child, every day: That’s the focus for Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson, the superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools.
Dr. Dyson is focused on raising expectations and achieving results. Her commitment to learning is evident in her coaching, supervision and support of staff members to create favorable outcomes for all students.
She is also dedicated to listening and acting with intention. Throughout her career, she has embraced, “you said, we did” in her communication to demonstrate her trust and follow-through on student, teacher, staff and community feedback. She is passionate about learning and focused on supporting public educators to create favorable outcomes for students.
Even before starting as superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools on July 1, 2022, she began meeting with members of the Frederick County community, obtaining valuable feedback that will guide her first year as superintendent. She looks forward to meeting students, their families, and FCPS employees.
Dr. Dyson was born and raised in Maryland and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in Prince George’s County. She started her teaching career with Montgomery County Public Schools in 1999, where she also served as an assistant principal, principal, director of family and community engagement and director of school support and improvement of elementary schools. Prior to joining FCPS, she served as an MCPS associate superintendent, where she supervised 70 schools ranging from elementary to high school.
Dr. Dyson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Towson University, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Hood College in Frederick.
