Volunteer Registration Updates
Beginning Monday, January 26, 2026, Frederick County Public Schools transitioned its centralized volunteer registration process to Raptor. This update applies to new volunteers moving forward.
Individuals who are already approved volunteers for the current school year do not need to take any additional action.
This transition to our volunteer onboard process is designed to improve efficiency and consistency across FCPS. Volunteer applications will now be submitted through Raptor, replacing the previous online form. Required volunteer training remains unchanged.
Volunteer and Visitor Definitions
To help ensure clarity and consistency, FCPS uses the following definitions:
A volunteer:
- Works directly with students or student information
- Typically serves on an ongoing or recurring basis
- May include parents/guardians, family members, classroom helpers, student teachers, or community members
- Must complete FCPS volunteer registration and required training
A visitor:
- Participates in one-time, short-term, or limited activities
- Is not regularly assigned to a school
- May include guest speakers, attendees at assemblies or ceremonies, and community partners providing structured programs under staff supervision
- Does not need to complete volunteer registration or training
- Is screened through Raptor and must remain under FCPS staff supervision at all times
- May not have unsupervised access to students or student information
Community partners providing structured programs under staff supervision are considered visitors.
FCPS is fortunate to have family and community members join efforts in supporting our students and schools with their time and talents. There are many ways to get involved and volunteer in and out of our schools.
For more information on the volunteer program and process, please see our FCPS Volunteer Handbook.
Because safety is of utmost importance, extracurricular club sponsors, coaches, and all volunteers, regardless of their role, are required to complete mandatory volunteer training annually. Please keep in mind that this is an annual process (July-June) that takes place and must be completed every school year.
