Frederick County Public Schools announces that Daryl Boffman Sr. has accepted the new position of FCPS Executive Director of Public Affairs and will begin this month. A strong advocate for public education, Mr. Boffman served on the Board of Education of Frederick County from 2000-2010 and was president of the board in 2006.
His leadership experience also includes current membership on the board of Eliminating Achievement Gaps, Inc. He served on the Hood College Board of Associates from 2006-2016, the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce board from 2010-2016, and on the board of Heartly House of Frederick County from 1998-2000. For this and other work, he has earned numerous accolades including presidential, congressional, state and local awards for community service from 2005-2014.
As president, chief executive officer and founder of Acela Technologies, Inc., from 2002-2017, Mr. Boffman was named the Maryland Technology Council’s Entrepreneur of the Year for Frederick County in 2005 and Executive of the Year for 2012. He was cited in Frederick Magazine’s People to Watch 2009. In addition, his company was recognized as a statewide Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise in 2006 and again in a five-state regional recognition in 2014. In 2010, the Frederick County Department of Business and Economic Development designated his business Creative Firm of the Year.
Entering her third 4-year term as FCPS Superintendent this school year, Dr. Alban announced realignment of administrative roles to meet new Every Student Succeeds Act requirements, track and effectively implement legislative changes that result from Kirwan Commission recommendations, and eliminate the achievement gap. The former Communication Services Department has a new charge as the Public Affairs Department to track legislative updates and advocate for public education support.
“I have complete confidence that Daryl Boffman is the leader FCPS needs for the new Public Affairs Department,” Alban says. “His passion and expertise, combined with the strengths of staff from the former Communication Services team, will move FCPS in the direction we need to match our priorities and goals.”
Mr. Boffman earned his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in business management from Hampton University in 1984. He was a commissioned officer in the United States Army, where he served on active duty until 1987, rising to the rank of Captain, with top secret clearance and experience as communications safety officer.
In addition to running Acela Technologies, Inc. for 15 years, Mr. Boffman worked as director of finance/business manager at Jupiter Corporation from 1991-1995, vice president of finance at Computer Technology Services from 1995-1996, and vice president of finance and director of federal strategies at Integrated Communication Solutions from 1996-2002. He was vice president of in-building systems at Telnet, Inc. from 2017-2018 and has directed wireless systems at M.C. Dean, Inc. since 2018.
The new position will report directly to the Superintendent and will have an active role on the Superintendent’s Cabinet.
