New Process for Substitutes
Effective December 1, 2024: Long Term Substitute positions are open to internal candidates only. Once you have applied and been hired as a daily substitute you may apply for long term substitute positions. Please note that these positions are chosen by the individual school hiring managers and offered by Human Resources.
Going forward, all applicants must first apply to become a daily substitute before they can be considered for any long-term substitute positions. These long-term roles will now be classified as internal positions. This does not mean you are required to take daily substitute assignments if you prefer only long-term positions, but there is a distinction between the two that you may not be aware of.
A daily substitute position allows you to have full control over your schedule, including where you substitute, how many days per week, and how many hours you want to work each day. You set your own availability. On the other hand, with a long-term substitute position, you will be placed in the qualified pool for the schools you apply to, and the decision to offer you an interview will be made by the hiring manager or administrator. If you are selected for a long-term position, you will remain at that school for the duration of the assignment and are expected to report to work every day.
