Elementary Magnet Program Application Opens Soon

All county schools that serve students in second through fourth grade—public and private—will have access to Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) 2020-21 Magnet Program application information on Friday, January 24.  The program is designed for students in grades 3-5 with high ability and academic performance. The FCPS Web site will post application information at www.fcps.org/advanced beginning January 24.

Magnet sites for the 2020-21 school year are New Market, North Frederick and Urbana Elementary schools.

Completed magnet program applications are due, Friday, February 28, 2020, to allow schools time to administer necessary assessments and process other paperwork.

FCPS invites parents to a magnet program overview on Tuesday, January 21, at 6:30 p.m., at Gov. Thomas Johnson High, 1501 North Market Street, Frederick, MD.  The overview, for parents only, covers the characteristics of students for whom the program is designed and the processes leading to placement.  FCPS will provide interpreters upon request, with five days’ notice required.   Please register to attend at:  www.tinyurl.com/FCPSmagparentnight. The snow date is Monday, January 27 at the same time and location.

In May, schools will host visitations for parents of students offered placement in the program. No other visitations are permitted.

Parents of nonpublic school students and students receiving home schooling, as well as anyone desiring additional information, may contact FCPS Supervisor of Advanced Academics, Dr. Jessica Reinhard, 301-696-6891.
