FCPS Named Best Place to Work: Major Employer Category for 2020

Frederick County Public Schools earned the 2020 Best Place to Work Award in Frederick County’s major employer category. Reviewers evaluated human resource metrics, business culture, employee compensation and benefits, and employee-engagement programs to rate employers on work-life balance, diversity, median salary, turnover rate, benefits and response to COVID-19. The major employer category is for groups with more than 200 employees. The school system employs more than 8,000 people, full- and part-time, to support 45,000 students in more than 70 buildings countywide.

“I am extremely proud of this accomplishment,” said Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban. “As an organization committed to serving our students and community, this award is a reminder that FCPS is also committed to serving our employees. Our Human Resources Department consistently earns the Maryland Department of Health’s Gold Award as a Healthiest Maryland Business and does an outstanding job sponsoring activities year-round to engage employees in wellness activities. Our Board of Education has strategic goals focused on supporting employees, collaborates every year to support initiatives brought forward by employee associations, and has taken exceptional measures to provide support during the pandemic.”

The Best Places to Work Awards program is a partnership of Frederick County Workforce Services, the City of Frederick’s Department of Economic Development, the Frederick County Office of Economic Development and the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce. In its 18th year, the countywide awards program is designed to increase quality of life opportunities for Frederick County employees.
