Five Frederick County students will serve as pages, and one as alternate, for the Maryland General Assembly 2021 legislative session. All are high school seniors.
The students selected are Amelia Jansen, Linganore High; Hannah Ullman, Frederick High; Olivia deGuzman, Gov. Thomas Johnson High; Chloe Kim, Oakdale High; and David Turner, Middletown High. The alternate is Gabriella Alfano, Brunswick High.
Serving as a legislative page is a unique opportunity for students to learn firsthand about the workings of the legislative process in Maryland. Apportionment of pages, by county, is based on the census taken at the beginning of each decade.
Amelia Jansen is student representative for the Linganore High Band Boosters Board of Directors. She is also section leader and student brass coordinator for the Linganore High Marching Band. She is a National History Honor Society member and teen delegate for the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital.
Hannah Ullman is part of the Student Government Association Executive Committee, where she serves as head of the School Improvement Committee. She is a National Honor Society and National English Honor Society member.
Olivia deGuzman is a two-time photography grand champion at The Great Frederick Fair. She is president for the 4-H Calico Clovers and had her artwork featured at The Delaplaine Arts Center.
Chloe Kim has served as a volunteer at Columbia Community Care delivering groceries and restocking shelves for families in need. She earned Best Position Paper honors at the 2019 Model United Nations team event. She has served as a violinist for Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra and Catholic Central High School Orchestra.
David Turner has served as a Boy Scout for 10 years and is soon to become an Eagle Scout. He is a first-degree Black Belt in karate and serves as an instructor.
Gabriella Alfano is a member of the National Honor Society. She has also served as a Student Government Association member since 2017. She participates in Girl Scouts and has more than 100 hours of volunteer service.
