FCPS suspends small group instruction

Frederick County Public Schools is suspending small group instruction and winter sports practices following worsening health metrics in the county. All instruction will be virtual until further notice.

These changes will take effect Monday, January 4.

Teachers may still use their classrooms to provide instruction. Staff may access buildings as needed, although telework is encouraged if possible. Students who need the internet to access remote classes will still be permitted in school buildings.

During the last three days, COVID-19 metrics from the Frederick County Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have increased or reached all-time highs.

FCPS will continue monitoring health metrics and conferring with the Frederick County Health Department to determine when small groups can return to classrooms and when winter sports practices can resume.

Current county health metrics will also affect the ability for FCPS to implement a hybrid model of instruction as originally planned. More details regarding a new schedule for the transition to the hybrid model will be shared later this week.

FCPS appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation during this latest challenge in the global health crisis. Please continue to watch for additional updates.
