Frederick County Public Schools is planning in-person graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021 that will take place outdoors at home stadiums.
Each ceremony will adhere to all health and safety protocols from the Frederick County Health Department, the Maryland Department of Health and the CDC.
“I am looking forward to celebrating the Class of 2021 at ceremonies later this spring,” FCPS Superintendent Dr. Terry Alban said. “Graduating seniors should be proud of their accomplishments, especially as we persevered through a health crisis that affected our community in so many ways.”
COVID-19 health and safety protocols will be observed for the ceremonies. Seating will be physically distanced with hand sanitizing stations available throughout the stadiums.
All graduates will be permitted to invite two guests. Due to the limited number of guests, each graduation will be livestreamed, so that friends, family and community members can view the ceremony in real time. The recordings will also be available on the individual school and FCPS YouTube channels. Links to each livestream will be provided prior to the event.
When a high school is scheduled to hold a graduation ceremony, an asynchronous learning day will be scheduled to accommodate visitor parking and allow staff to attend the ceremonies.
Most ceremonies have been scheduled for the morning in the hopes of avoiding hot afternoon temperatures and inclement weather. Plans for inclement weather are under development and will be shared at a later date.
