FCPS Names Finalists for the Student Member of the Board of Education of Frederick County

Five talented and accomplished Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) students are in the running to become the next Student Member of the Board of Education of Frederick County. These students have been chosen through a vetting process by the Frederick County Association of Student Councils (FCASC) and advisors of the local Student Government Association.

The five candidates, listed alphabetically by last name, are:

  • Bella Amell, a junior at Brunswick High School. She serves as Junior Class President, President of the Model UN Club, and Vice-President of the Student Council.
  • Hannah Morin, a junior at Linganore High School. She is President of the Class of 2023, Historian for the Environmental Club and is a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Ambassador.
  • Michael Olson, attends Middletown High School and is a sophomore. He is the Evaluations Coordinator for the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC), serving on the Executive Board, is the MASC Liaison to the FCASC, and is the Vice President of the Student Government Association.
  • Lucas Tessarollo, a junior at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. He serves as President of the SGA and is a member of the Model UN, Key and FBLA Clubs.
  • Brady Vlha, a junior at LInganore High School, is Junior Class Historian, a member of the Lancer Leaders Team and has served in several class councils and offices, as well as student government.

 A virtual candidates’ forum was held on January 6, 2022; candidates shared their vision for the position and discussed how they would represent students in FCPS. Online voting has begun and is open to FCPS middle and high school students. The popular vote at each school will determine who the school’s electors will cast their ballots for in the Electoral College during the February 3, 2022, Frederick County Association of Student Councils’ General Assembly.
