Local School Receives More National Recognition

Last year, Twin Ridge Elementary School achieved national banner recognition from Special Olympics for its efforts to provide inclusive sports and activities for students with and without disabilities.

Now, HASBRO, Inc., a global entertainment company, has selected Twin Ridge and four other national banner schools throughout the U.S., recognizing them for inclusive excellence.

“The amount of pride that I have in our students, families and staff for working to create a school environment where inclusivity, leadership and engagement of all students is held in such a high regard is immeasurable,” Twin Ridge Principal Heather Hobbs said. “Their commitment to using art, music and physical education as a vehicle to communicate and gain understanding of all students is at the core of what we believe in as a school.”

Twin Ridge will be celebrating with HASBRO and Special Olympics Maryland this Friday, March 25. During “specials,” each student will receive a gift from HASBRO and engage in some inclusive activities. The school has also been awarded a $5,000 grant to support its Unified Champions Club.

The mission and motto at Twin Ridge Elementary, appropriately enough, is – Together, Reaching Excellence for All Students.
