It’s time once again for the annual Frederick County Academic Tournament. This year’s event will take place at Frederick High School; first matches are scheduled for Friday, January 6.

Every FCPS high school is represented in this year’s tournament. Teams will compete weekly against two or three other high schools. Each week’s matches will feature a theme, starting with Astronomy in Week 1. Some of the other topics include, World Cup Soccer in Week 4, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Week 7. The tournament finals will be held Friday, February 24.

This marks the 42nd year of the Frederick county Academic Tournament. Since 1982, Linganore High teams have won the tournament nine times, Frederick High and Walkersville teams have won six, teams from Gov. Thomas Johnson and Middletown have each won five, Urbana and Brunswick four and teams from Catoctin and Tuscarora have each won once.

Brunswick High won the tournament championship last year, and was also the regular season winner.
