Results of the 2024 FCPS Secondary Science Engineering Fair

Frederick, MD ­– Frederick County Public Schools held the Frederick County Secondary Science and Engineering Fair on March 23 at Tuscarora High School. More than 100 judges from the area reviewed dozens of projects. 

The overall high school fair winners qualify to compete at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles from May 12-17. ThermoFisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge nominees are also eligible to compete nationally.

Top prizes are summarized below:

Overall High School Fair Winners:

Grand Prize: Urbana High’s Tarun Malarvasan, Karthik Muthukkumar and Pranav Sristy: “SAAR – Surgical Aid for Anatomical Reconstructions using Projector Based Augmented Reality and Computer Vision Systems”

Runner-up: Middletown High’s Neha Nair: “The Effect of Solar Proton Events on the Magnetic Field Strength in the South Atlantic Anomaly.” 

Overall Middle School Fair Winners:

Grand Prize: Urbana Middle’s Bhargav Gobburu: “Using Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Automobile Safety”

Runner-Up: Urbana Middle’s Amrutha Thalla: “Comparing the Effect of Different Factors on the Separation of the DNA using Gel Electrophoresis.”
