Frederick, MD (April 30, 2024) – When the original Green Valley Elementary building opened in 1971, staff kept the shovel from the original groundbreaking ceremony for historical reasons.
More than 50 years later, the shovel got to be used again. This time, for the groundbreaking of a new Green Valley Elementary building scheduled to open nearby.
FCPS held an official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Green Valley Elementary at an event attended by Frederick County elected officials, FCPS leaders, and Green Valley staff, students, and community members.
The school site is located in the Landsdale community off Landsdale Parkway, a few miles away from the current school location. Substantial project completion is expected by June 2025 with the school expected to be open for students by August 2025.
The new Green Valley Elementary will have a state-rated capacity of 725 students and will feature wall-to-wall Wi-Fi, TV monitors in each classroom, a cafeteria with a stage that opens to the gym, and three playgrounds.
The school’s design is by GWWO Architects. Construction management is by Dustin Construction.
Green Valley students Olutade Abiola-Matthew, Adalyn Agbomanyi, Carson Celis, and Daniella Lopez took part in the groundbreaking. They will all attend the new Green Valley.
