Aaron Burch Named the Recipient of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution State of Maryland Award
Frederick, MD – Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) is delighted to announce that Linganore High School teacher Aaron Burch was recently selected as the recipient of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) Outstanding Teacher of American History for Maryland for 2024. Burch was recognized by local chapter Carrollton Manor, NSDAR as their Outstanding Teacher of American History this past fall before advancing to the state level.
Burch, a teacher at Linganore High School for over 22 years, is a graduate of West Liberty State University, Slippery Rock University, and McDaniel College. His nomination stood out to NSDAR not only for his dedication to teaching American history, but also because his student nominees for Good Citizen of the Year have won the local chapter’s award for two consecutive years.
At Linganore, he has taught almost every course offered in the social studies department, and his teaching now focuses on American Studies and Advanced Placement (AP) U.S. History. Because he is the department chair, he is in the unique position of knowing almost every student in the school. His students consistently earn high scores. He is also noted for having freshmen pass the AP U.S. History exam, which is regularly taken by juniors and seniors.
Burch also volunteers for numerous history activities and societies for students to participate in. He is the co-founder and co-advisor to the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honors Society at Linganore, he supports as an extracurricular advisor of Model United Nations, Mock Trial, the Student Government Association, the Maryland General Assembly Page Program, and National History Day.
Burch was selected as the Maryland winner from 46 chapters of NSDAR throughout the state. Mr. Burch will receive his award at a May 18 luncheon at the Maryland Society, DAR’s annual convention.
