Frederick High School’s Brandon Brewbaker named overall Support Employee of the Year

Frederick, MD (May 16, 2024) – Instructional Assistant Brandon Brewbaker was named the overall 2024 FCPS Support Employee of the Year at last night’s Board of Education of Frederick County meeting.

Brewbaker has been with FCPS since 2008 and works at Frederick High School. He was nominated for the award by Liz O’Neal, assistant principal at Frederick High.

“Brandon Brewbaker works to reach every student, every day,” O’Neal wrote in her nomination. “He connects with students before schools starts, in the halls at lunch, during dismissal and at many sports games. His connection with students is always genuine and personal.”

Brewbaker is the longtime girls lacrosse coach at Frederick High, where he also serves as public address announcer for football games and routinely promotes student achievements via the school’s @CadetAthletics social media accounts.

This year, the FCPS Support Employees of the Year program recognized outstanding members of the school system’s support staff in seven broad job categories. Brewbaker was selected to receive the overall FCPS Support Employee of the Year award. He received a cash award, a personal day off, special trophy and a Board of Education pin.

The other support employees who received recognition are:

Administrative Support Employee of the Year: Robin Hemp, administrative secretary, Tuscarora High School

Food Service Support Employee of the Year: Tina Ford, food service assistant manager, Tuscarora High School

Operations Support Employee of the Year: Michael Bowles, lead custodian, Urbana High School

Special Education Support Employee of the Year: Cheryl Desmond, special education instructional assistant, Crestwood Middle School

Technical Support Employee of the Year: Philip Hannaby, user support specialist, New Market Middle School

Transportation Support Employee of the Year: Shelly Fraley, bus driver, serves the Walkersville High, Middle, and Elementary neighborhoods

These six employees each received a special FCPS plaque.
