Frederick County Public Schools is pleased to share that Brian Stocks, Instructional Assistant at Middletown High School, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2024 Veterans in Education Service Award.
In its eighth year, the award was created to honor an FCPS employee who has served our nation in the armed forces and provided exemplary service to FCPS and the community. Woodsboro Bank sponsors the annual Veteran in Education Award.
A committee of FCPS staff, community members and veterans reviewed this year’s eight nominations and chose the recipient.
In addition to Stocks, nominees included:
- John Hayden, JV Boys Lacrosse Coach, Oakdale High
- Kenji Hicks, Resident Substitute Teacher, Walkersville Middle
- Paul Hoffman, Social Studies Teacher, Walkersville High
- Kevin Jaye, User Support Specialist, Brunswick Elementary
- Randi Kirkland, English Teacher, Linganore High
- Renee Rosa, Administrative Secretary, Visual and Performing Arts, Curriculum, Instruction and Innovation
- Kenny Winters, Maintenance Area Supervisor Catoctin Feeder Schools
Stocks proudly served in the Maryland Army National Guard as a member of the Military Police, then as a Sheriff's Deputy with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. He has been an exceptional employee with FCPS for two years.
“In his work with our staff, our students, and our families, he is a pillar of integrity and trustworthiness,” Middletown High School Principal Bernie Quesada wrote in his nomination form. “His dedication to our school and our kids, particularly the most vulnerable, is felt by everyone on our staff.”
Stocks was nominated by students at Middletown High as well. Maebree Knight, a Middletown High student wrote: “He is well known throughout the school in a very positive light because he is very outgoing and kind to others. He is very loyal to the students and teachers, and that is why he is able to create so many connections with the people located around him.”
Stocks was surprised with the news that he is this year’s Veteran in Education Service Award recipient by FCPS and Middletown High leaders, including Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mike Markoe, Board of Education Member Dean Rose and representatives from Woodsboro Bank Travis Teal and Chuck Reader, our award sponsor.
