FCPS Announces Last Day of the School Year: Wednesday, June 17

Frederick County Public Schools announces that the last day of this school year for students and teachers is Wednesday, June 17.

FCPS has closed 10 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic and one day due to inclement weather in the 2019-2020 school year. Today, the Maryland State Board of Education waived the requirement to make up five of the ten non-school days due to COVID. Students will make up the snow day on primary election day, with distance learning continuing that day, Tuesday, June 2. With only five remaining schooldays to make up past June 10, FCPS will end the school year June 17.

The school system’s 12-month employees will begin four-day workweeks on Monday, June 22. Employees on 12-month schedules will work extended hours four days each week to make up for the fifth day off. The five-day workweek is scheduled to resume on Monday, August 17, though this date is subject to change depending on COVID-19 recovery needs.

The 2020-2021 school year is scheduled to begin Monday, August 31, 2020 for students, though families should stay alert for changes that may be necessary due to the pandemic. FCPS will send additional information via FindOutFirst email as it is determined and will post information online at www.fcps.org/calendar.
