BOE Amends 2020-2021 Academic Calendar, Approves 2021-2022 Calendar

The Board of Education of Frederick County amended the 2020-2021 academic calendar at its regular meeting this afternoon.

Following their decision last week to go forward with the Full Virtual Learning Model the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year, with virtual instruction starting for students on Monday, August 31, the Board decided that students will participate in virtual instruction on Fair Day Friday, September 25 and Election Day Tuesday, November 3.

The Board also moved the second term end date from Thursday, January 28 to Tuesday, January 26 and moved the Friday, January 29 teacher work day to Wednesday, January 27, 2021. They approved a move for the third term midterm date and 2-hour early dismissal for students to accommodate the midterm teacher work session from Wednesday, March 3 to Monday, March 1.

The Board then discussed calendars for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years. They unanimously adopted the 2021-2022 academic calendar with a student start date of Wednesday, August 18, 2021 and end date of Wednesday, June 1, 2022. They did not support a 2022-2023 academic calendar starting Wednesday, August 10, and asked staff to draft a calendar starting that academic year the week of August 15, 2022.
