Child Find Services

Child Find is the process for locating, evaluating and identi­fying all children from birth through age 21 who are suspected of having a disability.

  • Parents of a child aged 2 years, 9 months or older, yet not age eligible for Kindergarten in the current school year, parents should contact the Child Find Office at 301‑644‑5292.
  • Parents who suspect their FCPS enrolled child may have an educational disability should speak with staff at their child’s school.
  • Parents of a child enrolled in Kindergarten – grade 12 at a private school within Frederick County, or are enrolled in Home Schooling, should contact the child’s residence school.
  • Parents of a child entering Kindergarten in the fall (5 years old by September 1, 2024) should contact the Child Find Office at 301-644-5292. After March 21, 2024, the parents should contact the child’s residence school.

The Child Find video showcases the continuum of preschool special education services available to children in Frederick County Public Schools who warrant the support of specialized instruction. Families, service providers and community members are invited to view the video to develop a better understanding of the supports available to some of our youngest learners.
