Institutes of Higher Education Partnerships with FCPS

FCPS partnerships with Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) are evaluated to determine if  program offerings are in alignment with our systemic goals and needs.  This evaluation process explores opportunities for FCPS employees to enhance their education in areas that align with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) licensure regulations, provide pathways to initial certification, or the addition of an endorsement of an existing license.  Additionally, our evidence-informed lens explores if a program is grounded in the best evidence we know about a particular field.

To provide a better understanding of our evaluation process, some of the guiding areas/criteria are provided below:

  • How has this program been informed by our best understanding of how people learn, backed by evidence from the field of cognitive science, and shown to have positive effects on learning?
  • What evidence from research supports the design and effectiveness of this program?  What is the quality of that evidence?
  • Have the needs of learners been considered equitably? What relevant data was examined?
  • Does the program pace and cost align with the fiscal year pace of FCPS tuition benefits for our different employee groups?
  • Are there additional fees (technology, materials, registration, activities, etc.) associated with enrollment in which the student will be responsible?
  • Are official transcripts able to be provided by the IHE at the conclusion of the semester along with the direct pay invoice?
