Middle School Science

FCPS middle school students learn to use and apply scientific knowledge.

Students learn science by acquiring knowledge and constructing explanations of natural phenomena. Then they test those explanations and communicate their findings both in oral and written forms. Through this process, students develop a deep understanding of science that combines knowledge and facts with reasoning and critical thinking.

The FCPS Outdoor School staff provides additional life science instruction for grade 6. Students experience two full-day field trips and learn about the ecology of Frederick County.

The middle school science program:

  • Provides opportunities to participate in the Outdoor School and other field trips
  • Encourages participation in curricular activities inside and outside the classroom such as the Science Fair.
