District Committee on Assessment

In 2017, the Maryland General Assembly passed the More Learning, Less Testing Act, compelling school districts to ensure that all locally mandated assessments are clear in their purpose, time limited, worth taking, high quality, and tied to improved student learning. The legislation also requires the formation of a district committee to advise, provide feedback, and make recommendations about the district’s assessment system. The Committee, which consists of parents, teachers, school administrators, and central office leaders, reviews required assessments in all major content areas and grade levels, examining the time, purpose and value of required assessments in elementary, middle and high school.

The Committee will be meeting throughout the 2022-23 school year and report to the Board of Education in spring 2023.
