GED Information

Home School students are eligible to take the General Educational Development Test (GED) after they turn 16. Successful completion of the GED will result in the student receiving a State of Maryland High School Diploma. This Diploma is awarded to those passing all four modules of the GED® tests. GED® Testing Service, through Maryland's Department of Labor, is the ONLY official provider of a Maryland High School diploma earned through GED® testing.

GED test and home instruction(Home School) students:

Home School students are eligible to take the GED after they turn 16. Successful completion of the GED will result in the student receiving a State of Maryland High School Diploma typically before they would complete their senior year in high school. Parents typically purchase GED preparation materials in book form or an on-line preparation program (use the internet for these type of resources).  GED Brochure

Step 1:  Student creates an account with the Maryland GED Office.  www.ged.com

Step 2:  Guardian eventually requests (mail/email/call) that this office complete the Maryland GED Office Home Instruction Verification Form.

Step 3: Guardian submits the requested and completed form to the Maryland GED office.

Step 4: Students will go to the GED Testing Service website in order to register to take the GED.

Step 5: Guardian notifies the Home Instruction Office of successful completion of GED

There are several ways you can prepare for the GED® test. After you open an account, in the 'Study' section of your account you'll have access to free study guides, free practice tests, the official GED Ready® practice test, in-person and online classes, GED Flash, GED+ among other study options.  There are Online GED® test preparation classes with Maryland i-Pathways.
