Semester Review

The purpose of a review is for families to report on the required topics of study (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, PE, Electives), curriculum, online programs, course selections and other pertinent information describing what your child is/has/will be completing through the course of each semester.

REVIEW DUE DATE:  December 20, 2023

All review materials must be received by December 20, 2023. We strongly recommend that you submit your review materials anytime, and as soon as possible, before December 20, 2023. All review materials should be emailed to homeinstruction@fcps.org with the student’s full name in the subject line.

Portfolio Options

Option 1:  Google Portfolio Form:  To access the Google form simply click on this link ( Access the Google form here).  The google form can be accessed by computer or cell phone.  Your use of this form ill automatically send a copy to homeinstruction@fcps.org with your student’s name in the subject line.  In addition, you will automatically receive an emailed copy of your review submission. 

Option 2:  Portfolio Summary Review Form:  Email or mail a completed Portfolio Summary Review  Form. Simply click on this link to access and download the form First Semester Portfolio Summary Review and Learning Plan Form. Option 3:  Transcripts/Grade Reports:  Email/scan/mail/photograph a copy of a transcript or grade/progress report received from the organization/college/program/ co-op (i.e. Penn Foster, Liberty, Keystone, ABEKA, etc.) your child is working with.  

Option 4:  Digital Portfolio:  Email/scan/mail/photograph a few samples of relevant materials for each required subject.  Please make sure all subjects are included.  Work samples should be formatted as jpegs, docs or pdfs. To see a sample, go to Sample digital portfolio

Option 5:  GED:  Submit review materials (the name of GED program/book, etc.) that your child is using to prepare for the GED. You can easily submit this information using Option 1 or 2 above.  Visit our website for more GED information.

Option 6:  Face to Face Review:  A Home Instruction Monitor will be available at the following Frederick County Libraries on the dates listed below. Reviews will be by appointment only.  Use  to select your time slot.  Please select one time slot per student.  The sign up list will close on November 6.

  • Monday November 13, 2023  for - Brunswick Library and C. Burr Artz Library 
  • Tuesday November 14, 2023 for - Middletown Library and Myersville Library
  • Wednesday Nov 15, 2023 for - Thurmont Library and Emmitsburg Library
  • Thursday Nov 16, 2023 for - Urbana Library and Walkersville Library

If none of the options above works for your family, please contact the Home Instruction Office at homeinstruction@fcps.org as soon as possible. After you have submitted your review materials, you will receive a confirmation of completion from our office and then be removed from subsequent Review Reminder emails for semester one.

WHAT IF NONE OF THE REVIEW OPTIONS ABOVE WORKS FOR ME?

If none of the options above works for your family, please contact the home instruction office at homeinstruction@fcps.org as soon as possible.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I HAVE SUBMITTED MY REVIEW MATERIALS?

You will receive a response from our office and be removed from subsequent Review Reminder emails which will be sent in the future.

WHAT IF I HAVE NOT COMPLIED WITH THE REVIEW REQUIREMENT?

Families that have not complied by this review due date will be notified of their non-compliance status and will be referred to the Pupil Personnel Worker assigned to their child's school.
