Background
Yellow Springs ES is approximately 52,600 gross square feet and was originally constructed in 1957 with additions in 1966 and 1974. A new replacement facility will be constructed near Christophers Crossing, Walter Martz Road, and Spring Run Drive, in the City of Frederick. The new school will accommodate students from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, with a state-rated capacity of 745 students, housed in a multi-story facility encompassing approximately 84,553 gross square feet. The design of the building has been adapted to meet site conditions and will become the new prototype elementary school design for the county.
The new YSES Replacement is being design by SEI Architects and the construction manager overseeing the project is MCN Build. The new YSES will:
- Be designed for energy efficiency that meets the USGBC LEED Silver design requirements
- Meet all current local building codes of the authorities having jurisdiction and the FCPS Educational Program Specifications.
- The new school Design/Construction will be performed in accordance with the State of Maryland IAC / PSCP guidelines and DGS requirements.
